In Virginia the charge will remain on your record for 11 years. In most other states the charge may remain for as long as ten years, but ten years is considered the maximum. You can also have your record expunged after three to five years, which will not remove the record, but will dismiss the charge so that it will not be reflected in insurance premiums.

Currently 45 states are members of the Interstate Driveru2019s License Compact meaning that information is shared between the DMV of all states, and a driveru2019s record will follow them when moving. Only Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin are currently not part of this program (as of January 2020).

Will my employer be informed if I receive a reckless driving ticket?

Accepted Answer

Your information is public record, but your employer will not necessarily receive notification (unlike your insurance company) unless your job involves driving. If your employer asks for your record, they may see it, but only if they seek the information themselves.
